What does this operation involve?

An extended abdominoplasty uses a longer transverse excision than a standard procedure to address loose tissue continuing onto the flanks. It may be particularly useful after substantial weight change or where a shorter central excision would leave residual folds at the sides.

01

When it may be considered

  • Skin and tissue excess that extends around the sides of the waist
  • Residual flank folds unlikely to respond adequately to a standard excision
  • Patients who accept a longer scar in exchange for broader contour correction
02

Your operation

  • A low scar extending further laterally according to the tissue distribution
  • Abdominal redraping with careful attention to the waist and flank transition
  • Muscle repair and liposuction may be added when clinically appropriate
03

Recovery and aftercare

  • The wider area of surgery can produce more swelling and tightness
  • Mobility, garment use and thrombosis prevention are planned individually
  • Return to normal activity is progressive and may be longer than after a limited procedure

Designed around your anatomy.

The distribution of skin and tissue excess, abdominal-wall strength, previous scars, weight change, general health and the outcome you hope to achieve are assessed together.

You will receive a clear explanation of the proposed scar, whether muscle repair or liposuction may be appropriate, material risks, alternatives and the expected recovery before deciding how to proceed.

Useful information

01How is it different from a standard abdominoplasty?+

The key difference is the lateral extent of skin removal. The longer scar allows treatment to continue further towards the flanks.

02Does it treat the back as well?+

Not fully. When laxity continues substantially around the lower back and buttocks, a circumferential 360° body and buttock lift may be more appropriate.

03Can the scar be hidden?+

It is planned with underwear and clothing in mind, but anatomy, previous scars and the required correction determine its final position.
